It was only a 3.75 hour drive home on Sunday as there was less traffic than Friday night. We hiked the trails that are right near the lighthouse. We drove in to Ilwaco to have dinner at “at the helm” which was very nice. Two of the bedrooms had a queen bed and the third had two twin beds. There is one bathroom on the first floor, no bathroom on the second floor by the 3 bedrooms. There are books and games in the shelf in the dining room. There is a tv with DVD player in the house but only about five dvds. Cell service with Verizon is about one bar. If we had bikes we could’ve biked to Ilwaco. The discovery trail is a multi use trail so we saw a few folks both walking and biking it. There, some folks had driven on to the beach and were catching fish. There is a challenging bluff trail near the house that we did not do, but we walked the discovery trail for a little over a mile before cutting down to the beach. It’s an easy walk to the north head lighthouse (.5mi loop). The lighthouse loop trail runs right past the house so it’s busy during the day. We brought our own camp chairs to sit outside a bit. There is no fireplace or fire pit outdoors. There are many supplies provided- beds with linens and pillows, a set of towels, soap and shampoo for each guest, dishes, silverware, a blender, pans for cooking and baking (full stove/range in kitchen) and a coffeemaker and microwave with full fridge and freezer. We offer 8 cabins to rent on over 340 feet of beautiful Lake Huron frontage. There is a view of the ocean (and ships!) from the house. Lightkeepers Cottages, Port Hope Port Austin, Port Hope, Michigan. I had booked this stay online via the WA State Parks site about eight months in advance and was glad to have selected this house. This is a 3 bedroom house that has a modern kitchen with all new appliances, two remodeled bathrooms, and a new laundry. We stayed in LK2 which is the head lighthouse keepers residence which stands apart from the duplex that is the assistant lighthouse keepers residence. We were surprised that at least a dozen deer were out on the lawn in the dark munching grass when we arrived. Due to Covid 19, public tours may be suspended. Renters are required to have the cottage ready for the open house and vacate the cottage for four hours during the public tours. Tour guides will be on site to lead tours. We were emailed in advance a key code for a lockbox that hangs on the doorway so it was nice and easy to let ourselves in. Each Saturday from May through September public tours are held in the cottage from 1pm-4pm in the cottage. We arrived at 8:15pm- a five hour drive from north Seattle via I-5 to hwy 101 thanks to a lot of traffic. This price for two nights (two night minimum stay) was $675 as it is not the main season. Our family of four stayed in the head lighthouse keepers house at Cape Disappointment the second weekend of October.
